How to install clip on wheel weights?

If you are a new tire repairer, how do you install the clip on wheel weights? Here you can find the correct installation process.

Here’s a step – by – step guide on how to install clip on wheel weights:

Materials You'll Need

1.Clip on wheel weights (make sure they are the correct size and type for your wheels)

2.A wheel balancer (if you want to balance the wheels accurately. In some cases, you can also use the vehicle’s own balancing method such as the “bubble” balancer found on some older vehicles or use a mechanic’s balancing equipment)

3.A Wheel Weight Hammer

Steps

1.Prepare the wheel

2.Clean the area of the wheel where the weights will be installed. Dirt, grease, and debris can prevent the weights from adhering properly. You can use a degreaser and a clean rag to wipe the surface.

3.Make sure the wheel is dry before proceeding.

4.Determine the correct weight placement

5.If you are using a wheel balancer, it will tell you the exact location and amount of weight needed to balance the wheel. The goal is to distribute the weight evenly around the circumference of the wheel to reduce vibrations.

6.Mark the location on the wheel rim where the weights will be attached. This is usually the outer edge of the wheel rim.

7.Attach the clip on wheel weights

8.Take a clip on wheel weights and position it so that the clip is facing the correct direction to attach to the wheel rim. The clip should be able to grip the edge of the rim.

9.Using a pair of wheel weight hammer, carefully press the clip onto the wheel rim. Make sure it is securely attached. The weight should be flush against the rim and the clip should hold it tightly.

10.If you need to add more than one weight, space them evenly according to the balancing requirements. For example, if you need to add 10 grams of weight and you have 5 – gram weights, you would place two weights at the appropriate locations around the rim.

Check the installation

1.After attaching all the wheel weights, give the wheel a visual inspection to make sure all the weights are properly attached and in the correct positions.

2.Spin the wheel (either on the vehicle if it’s jacked up properly or on a wheel balancer) to check for any vibrations. If there are still vibrations, you may need to re – balance the wheel and adjust the weight placement.

It’s important to note that if you’re not confident in your ability to install wheel weights correctly, it’s a good idea to have a professional mechanic do the job. Incorrectly installed wheel weights can lead to wheel imbalance, which can cause problems such as uneven tire wear and a rough ride.
